Farming Equipment & Technology Fund 2025

May 14, 2025

As a veterinary practice, we want to help farmers access funding to improve the health and welfare of their livestock. The application for the Farming Equipment & Technology Grant 2025 opens on 29th May, and offers opportunities to invest in equipment that can enhance cow welfare, improve productivity, and support sustainability. The application window closes on 10th July 2025. There are 3 “themes” available, and farmers can apply for one, two or all three, with up to £25,000 available for each:

1. Productivity

2. Slurry

3. Animal Health and Welfare – this is where we come in!

•Improving Cow Welfare:
o Automated Feeding Systems: These systems ensure cows receive consistent, balanced nutrition, improving overall health and milk production.
o Cow Health Monitoring Devices: Wearable sensors or smart collars that track vital signs, activity levels, and even early signs of illness, enabling quick intervention.
o Milking Parlour Upgrades: Automated milking systems that reduce stress on cows, improve hygiene, and enhance milk yield.
o Comfortable Housing Systems: Improved bedding, climate-controlled barns, and anti-slip flooring that reduce stress, injuries, and lameness in cows.
o Veterinary Monitoring Equipment: Remote monitoring systems that allow vets to track herd health from a distance, making it easier to manage care for individual cows.

•Enhancing Worker Safety:
o Ergonomic Equipment: Tools designed to reduce strain and injury risks to farm workers, such as powered gates, hoists, and lifting systems.
o Animal Handling Systems: Equipment that makes it easier and safer for workers to handle cows during routine tasks like vaccination, testing, or sorting.

•Promoting Sustainability:
o Efficient Watering Systems: Automated, water-saving systems that ensure cows have constant access to fresh water without wasting resources.
o Energy-Efficient Milking Equipment: Milking machines and refrigeration units that reduce energy consumption and help lower operational costs.
