Seeing practice at Wyvern Farm Vets
As a modern farm animal veterinary practice, part of our role is to provide a protected environment for young veterinary students to learn practical aspects of the profession. Wyvern Farm Vets has been involved in this for many years and has received recognition as an excellent Extra Mural Study Centre.
If you wish to see practice with our team in Frome, please email us directly.
Please note, we now have students with us virtually all year round (including those from overseas) and are always very heavily subscribed for EMS places, so we cannot guarantee there will be a place available at the times you request.
About EMS at Wyvern Farm Vets
On your first day seeing practice with us, please turn up to the Frome Farm Office for an 8:30 am start, wearing appropriate attire (no jeans). Make sure to bring your own clean wellies, waterproofs, and lunch.
Making a good impression is important – you can do this by showing self-motivation; look at the following day’s diary and arrange with the Farm Vets to go out with them to ensure you get the most out of your time with us.
If there is anything specific you would like to see or improve-on whilst seeing practice, please inform us at the beginning of your EMS placement and we will do our best to arrange exposure to these.
Sometimes it will be easier for the vet if you meet them at the client’s farm in the morning. In which case, our receptionists will be able to give you a postcode and a grid reference for the farm/what three words. In quieter times we have a few projects that you can work through, depending on your area of interest including:
- Beef fertility data investigation
- Johnes action plan formulation
- Lameness investigation
- Youngstock investigation
